The length of an SGML attribute is governed by the LITLEN quantity in the
SGML declaration. Offhand, I believe this is 2048 butes for HTML 2.0 in
RFC 1866. In addition, HTML requires that no line be longer than 72
characters (although this is frequently violated) and therefore that
no single token be longer than 71 characters.
Element content is not restricted in length.
