CFP: THE POPULAR IN MEDIEVAL AND RENAISSANCE ITALY
I am a organizing a session (sponsored by the Italian Department of the
University of Exeter) for the 1997 Kalamazoo conference, on 'The Popular
in Medieval and Renaissance Italy'. Papers will analyze primary source
material, ascertaining how it reveals what was distinctly popular in
Italy. I have received two excellent abstracts: one paper will deal with
carnivalesque elements of Pulci's *Morgante*, and another on how
Renaissance sermon collections reveal a common Italian attitude to the
role of penance.
In order to spare me giving the third paper and bring down the quality of
the session, I'm hoping one of you might be interested in giving a paper.
If you are, please contact me by 23 September, via e-mail at:

(I'll be officially changing my address from Bristol to Exeter in a few
weeks; a message in this regard will be made at that time.)
