Today, 26 August, is the feast of ...
* Zephyrinus, pope and martyr (c. 217)
- one of several popes who were the only ones to bear their name
(unlike the dozens named 'John' -- how dull)
* Timothy of Montecchio (1504)
- from area of L'Aquila, he was a Franciscan priest, noted for the
efficacy of his prayers; also, Christ spoke to him audibly from the
sacramental species; today his remains are in friary of St Angelo in Ocra
* Thomas Percy, martyr (1572)
- his father, Sir Thomas Percy, was hanged at Tyburn in 1537; the
younger Thomas met his fate in Berwick
* John Wall, martyr (1679)
- Franciscan, executed at Worcester for complicity in 'the Oates
plot'
