dear all
on the limericks front, a few things: (1) yes, we haven't really been
talking much anyway, since people are away and conferencing etc
[incidentally, i'm still prepared to give more details about the
Anglo-American and Leeds if anyone wishes; and i would love to know
about other bashes that i was unable to get to - such as the
Ecclesiastical History Society ...?] (2) yes, we can just hit delete
[and i'm such a sad git that i get a small thrill out of a full mailbox,
even if it is all limericks] (3) but, er, yes, maybe enough is enough
... maybe, in fact, if we are going to have a "carnival day" [and
perhaps someone could do a post-Bakhtinian paper on the politics of
that!] we could also change the *style* of joke? i think i may have read
enough limericks on any subject to last me a lifetime ...
Perhaps the thing to do is to post something for others amusement if you
feel *particularly* inspired [as i have to say that i rather like the
communal, as well as academic, atmosphere on this list] but - hey -
don't go out of your way to come up with quips and puns. :)
cheers
