Dear Listmembers
It seems that I am the only listmember who is finding the trivia on
the List a bit much. However, despite the risk of seeming very dull
could I suggest that we at least try to have more academic discussion
that trivia, as it cloggs up my E-mail folder, and what was at first
amusing is beginning to feel a bit tedious.
Hope that this does not offend too many people

Dear Listmembers,
I have thoroughly enjoyed the limericks and trivia this summer. After an
extremely trying and frustrating semester, some good laughs on the internet
were a welcome relief. I assumed everyone needed to let off steam and have a
"silly season".
However, Louise has a good point. Why don't we have an occasional "trivia
day", announced in advance? (Feast of Fools seems an obvious one, but we don't
need to limit ourselves to one day a year.) That day, only limerick such will
be listed. Everyone will know it's coming and can deal with those messages as
seems appropriate.
As academics we have a tendency to take ourselves too seriously. Let's
find a way to balance the great help this list provides with a chance to pun
and make jokes. (Medieval jokes and plays on words fall pretty flat here in
Wyoming) I'm sure people as intelligent as we are can find a way to combine
fun and seriousness.
Trivially yours,
