Just as a thought...I have seen many panels of medieval glass where a 19th
century restorer has replaced the head of a figure (often because it was
missing due to the actions of iconoclasts); and where, unfortunately, due
to the technique of medieval staining of glass being tricky for the
Victorians to relearn, the glass has discoloured to produce what often
appears to be a ruddy tint.
I'm sure you've already discounted this as a possibility, but it may
account for some of the 'rosy-cheeked' saints that everyone is bound now
to send in examples of!
