Dear members of the list,
I was wondering if anyone on the list might know enough of Hildebert's
life to tell me WHEN he wrote a letter to someone who was ordained quite
young bishop of Angers. The library is closed and will be closed until
Tuesday as it is the Fete Nationale de la Saint-Jean-Baptiste, here in
Quebec. So I cannot give the exact reference of this letter
in the PL, neither the name of the receiver. I read about it in the
"Dictionnaire de discipline ecclesiastique" by Thomassin (p.81). Here is
the section of this book mentionning the letter:
I definitively enjoy reading this old (very pious) style ! As Hildebert was
still bishop of the Mans, the letter was written between 1096 and 1125,
but I would love to know if it was before 1120-1122, or after. More
precisely, I would like to know if it was before Hildebert wrote his Life
of Hugh of Cluny, or after.
Thank you for your help,
Isabelle Cochelin
