Greetings all! I agree with Steve, Nick and others that critical
geography conferences in Vancouver or elsewhere do not preclude other
initiatives such as 'virtual conferences'. In fact, I would encourage
Andy and others to organize an initiative of this sort--perhaps it could
focus on an exchange of ideas about what critical geography entails and
how we can/do go about it. Access is going to be an issue with any of
our initiatives and I think the important thing is that we deal with that
issue as creatively as possible. I have suggested to Neil Smith that we
consider steps such as making tapes of the Vancouver proceedings
available after the conference and possibly even interactive computer
hook-ups in order to increase access. I'm sure he and the Vancouver
organizers would welcome other suggestions. Perhaps then we can move on
to the wider-ranging discussion of critical geography that forum
participants have been looking forward to! Best wishes, Vera Chouinard
