1. Something positive needs to be done about the reported RGS-IBG
Council decision. The last few days' comments are worthwhile but
rather in a vacuum until we have an authoritiative report on what
happened at the relevant meeting. Can someone send me the email
address of the rgs-ibg which I can't find in my office. I will ask
for such a report for the forum.
2. We need to send a lot of coherent and reasoned responses for
transmission to next rgs-ibg council to show grass-roots dissent and
demand for continued debate.
3. On the forum we need to exchange ideas about an action plan that
those in agreement can follow to pressure the relevant rgs-ibg
officers, get reporting in the Newsletter and everything that will
reach the wider membership however unsympathetic many may be.
4. It seems to me that we must show the depth of feeling about the
nature of the association with companies such as Shell by such an
organisation, and keep up pressure on rgs-ibg for a more sensitive
response. The replacement of Hemming by Gardner as Director may be a
good moment to remind such a person that ethical issues are
ever-present in active research and a personal statement recognising
this would be well received.
