i think andy pratt's intervention is a timely one. there are many in the
forum - including most of us participating from the antipodes - who could
not contemplate attending the vancouver meeting, no matter what airfare
discounts are offered. to those of us on the margins, the fixation of late
of the forum on the vancouver event has tended to make the discussion
abstract and remote. i'm a little dismayed to see the critical forum
overtaken by microscopic political issues, like who gets to attend what
conferences. i hope we can refocus on social issues that need critical
attention.
i support wholeheartedly the idea of a virtual conference/discussion. it
would certainly democratise participation and deflect the necessity of lots
of discussion about who can or cannot be a part of the discussion (at least
within the present forum).
cheers all,
brendan gleeson
