just been looking at persons peripherally to do with Clemence. One of
several late twelfth (or thirteenth?) century hagiographers at Barking
Abbey who wrote long anglo-norman (French) poems about the abbey patrons.
Clemence definitely did a life of Catherine of Alexandria as well - there may
be more than one edition of this - one is in the Anglo-Norman Texts series,
I think.
you mights want to look at the work of W. McBain, who has edited several
anglo-norman lives and written articles on the subject. Also the general
works of M. D. (Marie Dominica?) Legge on anglo-norman (Anglo-NOrman in
the Cloisters is the title of one, I believe) would help in situating
Clemence.
cheers!
