Does anyone know of references in Bernard's works to him carrying
over his Marian devotion to the way he treated his monks?
In other words, it has been noted by some writers that he advocated a
"maternal" attitude toward the brothers of his order, in contrast to,
say, Isaac of Stella, who advocated stern obedience and adherence to
the Rule.
This is not to say that Bernard was lax, but there was a difference.
Any references in his epistles, or other writings to this
"motherly love" would be most appreciated.
Many thanks,
