Hello,
I have been reading this list's posting for a while, so I think it is
time to introduce myself. I am an Assistant Professor in the Romance
Languages Department at Wake Forest University in North Carolina. I work
with non religious texts, but the topics discussed here are teaching me a
lot about the medieval world. My research area is fifteenth century
literature, especifically vernacular translations and commentaries of the
classics. Presently, I am writing a book on Enrique de Villena, who
wrote the first complete translation of the Aeneid into Castilian (1427)
with a long allegorical commentary. He interprets the first three books
of the Aeneid as man's fall from grace into sin after a psychomachia,
and his recovery after confession and penance.
I would like to hear more about Ann Marie Rasmussen's project
(congratulations on your tenure!) about the motif of confession with a
humorous intent. [Ann Marie, perhaps we could meet sometime for coffee at
Chapel Hill and talk about our findings].
