Dear lists members,
My question relates to Loyola *Spiritual exercises*. There Loyola
recommends that the exercitant should reconstitute in his imagination the
scene, usually a passage of the Gospels, on which he will then meditate.
This mental reconstitution involves not only sight but the four other
senses. The use of sight is quite predictable, but I would like
to find out more about the pious involvment of the other senses.
Since I am not very familiar with devotional literature and
somehow intimidated by the considerable size of the bibliographia
Ignatiana I wonder whether someone on this list could suggest some
reliable article or book dealing specifically with the use of smell,
touch, taste and hearing in devotional literature, especially before Loyola.
My grateful thanks in advance.
Francois Quiviger.
