In his "Le Motif du repentir dans la litterature francaise medievale (des
origines a 1230)," J.-C. Payen traces the development of the literary theme
of penance towards contritionisme. A development that he sees as parallel with
that of the church up to the Fourth Lataran Council of 1215. As I would like to
examine this theme in the later Middle Ages (XIV-XVth), it would seem necessary
to find out what further doctrinal developments concerning penance took place,
if any, between the 4th Lataran Council and 1500. Can anyone suggest
