Members who, like me, have been hoping and waiting for it for years may be
delighted to know that Franca Brambilla Ageno's critical edition of the
_Convivio_ finally has been (or seems to have been -- I will rather be
careful after so many frustrations) brought to the light, according to an
advertisement of Casa Editrice Le Lettere (Costa S. Giorgio, 28, I-50125
Firenze, Tel. 2342710, Fax 2346010), which this morning arrived on my desk:
Dante Alighieri
Convivio
A cura di Franca Brambilla Ageno
Edizione Nazionale delle opere di Dante Alighieri
a cura della Societa' Dantesca Italiana
Due volumi di introduzione, pp. XXIV-998
Un volume di testo, pp.456
May it redeem us forever from the editorial sins of Pellegrini/Parodi and
Busnelli/Vandelli!
Regarding the price, the publishers declare to be glad "di offrire ai soci e
amici della Societa' Dantesca Italiana l'opportunita' di acquistare
l'edizione del _Convivio_ a cura di F. B. A. al prezzo speciale di lire
225.000 invece di L. 300.000 (per l'Estero L.235.000)". Having ruminated
more than once this beautiful piece of highly ambigous Italian prose, I have
reached the conclusion that a) the text in brackets should rather be
inserted after "lire 225.000", and that b) all of us would have to pay only
the reduced price of L. 225.000 (or 235.000), since all of us are certainly,
if not "soci", at least true "amici" of this most venerable association. Let
the higher price be payed by its declared ennemies.
O.L.
