Georges,
This is a tangential addition to this thread.
THe Jesuit College of St Aloysius is situated at Kirribilli in Sydney where
it has a fine view of Sydney Harbour Bridge. The Bridge has a reputation as
a favoured location for suicides.
My brothers, who went to school at St Aloysius, used to tell the story of a
certain Jesuit father who witnessed a man jumping to his death. He hastily
pronounced the absolution for the falling figure. Why? Although sinning
grievously, he may have been making a full repentance on the way down, and
have achieved a state of grace before reaching the water.
On the other hand, this may be another Jesuit Myth, like their supposed
attempts to baptize pagans before having them killed in battle.
