medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Colleagues (with apologies for cross-posting),
Can any anyone tell me when Cicero's 'De partitione oratione' became known in the medeival period? I know that the 'De Oratore' and the 'De inventione' were available, and I'm aware that a 'complete' oratorical works of Cicero was 'discovered' in 1422. However, the article which speaks of this (SABBADINI, Remigio 'Guarino Veronese e le opere rettoriche di Cicerone'. Rivista di Filologia e di Istruzione Classica, 1886) doesn't list the DPO among its contents and is mainly concerned with the rediscovery of 'Brutus'. It clearly wasn't well-known, but if anyone knows of any leads, such as a copy in a 14thC hand, or a publication which deals with this issue, I'd be interested to know of them.
Many thanks,
Laura
