The International Journal of Traditional Arts (IJTA) would like to issue an open call for submissions from scholars worldwide. We focus on contemporary policy and practice in traditional music, dance, drama, oral narrative, and crafts. We define 'traditional arts' as artistic and creative practices that serve as markers of cultural identity and that originate from oral traditions or incorporate their characteristics (although we also welcome submissions that seek to expand such definitions). As an interdisciplinary journal, we aim to publish high-quality research in disciplines including (but not limited to) ethnomusicology, cultural sociology, anthropology, ethnology, ethnochoreology, cultural policy, folklore, musicology, cultural studies, heritage, and tourism studies.
IJTA is a Gold Open Access journal, providing free access to the widest possible readership. This allows researchers to maximise their potential impact and satisfy the open access requirements of funding bodies without additional fees. Our double-blind peer-review process benefits from the expert evaluations of an international advisory panel and a core group of reviewers, with input from external experts where appropriate. We operate independently from large commercial publishing houses or academic associations, and editorial decisions are based solely on the rigour, originality and significance of the work, via the informed assessments of our reviewers.
We welcome articles of approximately 8,000 words. We also welcome shorter policy and briefing papers of up to 2,000 words, addressing topical developments in cultural policy or traditional arts practice; these are not double-blind reviewed but are reviewed by an editor. Submissions may incorporate relevant image and audio files where appropriate.
If you have any questions, please get in touch via our website, www.tradartsjournal.org.
Yours sincerely,
The Editorial Team
