Hi Ali,
It sounds plausible to me that some design articles do not use social theory with adequate care and understanding. Although, for what it’s worth, this problem isn’t one that I’ve noticed.
But design research must work with other disciplines and ways of knowing. Otherwise, the university risks disintegrating into a collection of professional schools sealed off from each other. That said, I appreciate your point that to break the rules, learn the rules first.
Published research is never perfect. Researchers make mistakes. I’ve made plenty. But then again, I feel that if I didn’t make mistakes, then my research isn’t extending my horizon of understanding. Research is supposed to be educative.
Best regards,
Luke
