Hello Gjoko,
Congratulations on the new edition of your book. The first edition has
undoubtedly been well used by us and our students.
Best,
Tomás

Subject: Research for Designers, 2nd Edition
Dear colleagues,
I would like to share with you that the new edition of my book, "Research
for Designers: A Guide to Methods and Practice" by SAGE Publishing is now
in production. The first edition which was published in early 2016 became
widely used as a textbook (at over 500 universities from around the world)
and as a reference book in many corporate libraries (from Apple and Nike to
General Motors and Amazon).
The second edition features revised and expanded content and a broad range
of exclusive case studies, including how the US Air Force uses design
thinking to combat nuclear terrorism; how ethnographic research became a
tool for decolonizing design in Africa; how Johnson & Johnson
revolutionized the medical devices design research process; how a company
such as Tupperware Brands started a design partnership with NASA and the
International Space Station; how the world's largest consumer goods company
Procter & Gamble uses AI to drive design research; how the White House uses
design to drive innovation in the US Federal Government, and more.
The book also features a Foreword by Ken Friedman, a co-authored Preface
with Don Norman, an Afterword by Steven Heller, and a reflection by David
Kusuma, the President-Elect of the World Design Organization.
To spice things up, the new cover and visual identity for the book are
designed by one of the greatest graphic designers of our time Michael
Bierut from Pentagram. His incredible body of work includes designs for
clients such as The New York Times, Saks Fifth Avenue, MasterCard,
Benetton, and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
If anyone is interested, the book is available for pre-order on the
publisher's website:
https://us.sagepub.com/en-us/nam/research-for-designers/book270503
As of January 2022, a global rollout of the book will follow in Los
Angeles, London, New Delhi, Singapore, Washington DC, and Melbourne. I plan
to have an official launch of the book during the Research & Education in
Design Conference (REDES2022) in Lisbon in May 2022 (if we don’t have any
pandemic surprises by then).
My special thanks go to all the contributors, including Tracy Moss, Cara
Wrigley, Jerry Kathman, François Nsenga, Guillermina Noel, Steve Eichmann,
Reneé Seward, Phil Duncan and Mitchell Sipus.
Wishing you all the best,
Gjoko Muratovski
