Hi All,
I’m inclined to Ken’s more elaborated view, and would suggest further that his specific reference to Ryle’s Concept of Mind should be extended to the whole work. Ryle’s suggestion that the concept of mind is a ‘category mistake’ should be essential reading for all working in the cognate fields of design and behavioural science.
It is also worth noting that much of the behavioural science work in this field owes its’ apparent “success” to the application of highly pervasive metaphors in our time from computing and information processing. Like all metaphors, these have limitations, which become apparent with time.
