Job Posting: Discussion Section Instructor (Part Time)
The department of Theory and History of Art and Design at the Rhode Island
School of Design is seeking Part Time faculty to teach undergraduate
discussion sections associated with its first year required introductory
course, Critical Introduction to History of Architecture and Design (H102),
to be taught in Spring 2022. The course lectures are given (remotely twice
a week) by full time faculty in the department, and cover thematic topics
related to history of architecture and design in both Western and
non-Western contexts. The course situates these developments particularly
in dialogue with the rise of European colonialism and slavery, and
subsequent decolonization and globalization movements . The section
instructor will be responsible for leading discussion related to weekly
lectures for a group of 19-21 students for 1.5 hours class meeting time per
section per week. Qualified candidates must be able to expand the
discussion from the lecture, drawing on related themes and examples not
necessarily covered in the lecture, and not simply repeat the lecture
material. The section instructor will also be responsible for giving, and
grading, a midterm and a final exam, and two paper assignments.
Compensation is dependent upon teaching experience. Attendance is required
at all (remote) lectures and weekly staff meetings, and will be compensated
by an additional stipend of $2000 for the semester. The position is open to
candidates holding a PhD, an MA or an ABD in related fields. Please contact
the Department Head with a brief email of interest and CV.
