BFE/RMA Research Students’ Conference 2022
6th - 8th January, 2022
School of Society and Culture, University of Plymouth
The School of Society and Culture at the University of Plymouth is delighted to host the British Forum for Ethnomusicology and Royal Musical Association Research Students’ Conference from January 6 to 8, 2022. The conference is planned to take place in Plymouth with a majority of the programme taking place in person, in order to allow for the maximum benefit of networking and social interaction (subject to government guidelines). The conference is an opportunity for music research students to present their research and practice in an inclusive, friendly, and supportive atmosphere.
The programme includes papers, lecture-recitals and posters on a vast range of musical research topics. There will be two exciting composition workshops with postgraduate composers: an instrumental workshop with The Hermes Experiment<https://www.thehermesexperiment.com/> and an electroacoustic workshop with computer music pioneers Eduardo Miranda and Archer Endrich. On 8 January, one of the parallel paper sessions (11 papers) will be streamed online. We are pleased to announce that the keynote lectures will be delivered by: Amada Hsieh (Chinese University of Hong Kong), winner of the Jerome Roche Prize, on behalf of the RMA Lyndsey Copeland (University of Toronto), winner of the BFE Early Career Prize, on behalf of the BFE. Finally, the programme includes research training sessions on topics including mental health in academia, and non-academic careers.
Delegates attending in person will be able to access all sessions; delegates wishing to only attend online have the option of registering for a single day and attending the online strand on Zoom.
