We are pleased to invite you to the Interdisciplinary scientific conference "Tables of birth and death for the city of Wrocław. A new reading of Caspar Neumann’s (1648-1715) legacy in the interdisciplinary perspective / Tablice narodzin i śmierci dla miasta Wrocławia. Nowe odczytanie dziedzictwa Caspara Neumanna (1648-1715) w perspektywie interdyscyplinarnej". The conference will take place on October 25th 2021 in the in hybrid form: stationary in Ossoliński National Institute in Wroclaw and online via the live stream video. 

This conference is a part of the project CASPAR NEUMANN. SOULS AND FUNDS. THE BOOK OF BIRTHS AND FUNERALS FOR THE CITY OF WROCŁAW organized by The Academy of Young Scholars and Artists in Wroclaw. The subject matter is wide, focused around the figure of Caspar Neumann - a resident of Wrocław and the topos of vanitas, but not only. We want to use the legacy of Caspar Neumann in the context of modern social and cultural problems. This involves taking into account the issues of the Covid-19 pandemic, climate and ecological problems, biopolitics, medical issues (cancer), but also art, both from the perspective of art history and musicology. It is the figure of Caspar Neumann that links created pension funds, contacts with the scientific community of Wrocław, London, Leipzig, but also with the reflection of his work, the best example of which is the use of his poetry "Liebster Gott, wenn werd ich sterben?" by Johann Sebstian Bach to the cantata of the same title (BWV 8).
