International Symposium
ACADEMIC MUSIC PUBLISHING: TRADITION AND INNOVATION, KNOWLEDGE AND IDEAS, CONFLICT AND COMPROMISE

November 16–17, 2021
Mixed format (in person and online)

Dear colleagues!
The topic stated in the title of the symposium concerns everyone who is connected with the latest publications of Russia’s unique cultural heritage. Many of the questions raised, as well as the search for answers to them, fall within the competence of not only music scholars, but also performers, general educators, publishers, employees of archives, museums, libraries, i. e. members of all professional communities involved in updating the spiritual culture created by the past generations.
For each group of creative works, such as different kinds of musical art, historically formed types of creation, literary texts of different genres, and remarkable academic studies, there are examples of outstanding academic publications, which are maximally comprehensive, impeccable in their coverage of materials, fundamental in terms of academic knowledge and cultural and aesthetic ideas.

Conference topics:
- The legacy of national composers as a unique legacy of Russia;
- Editions of composers’ complete works: current status in Russia and foreign practice;
- Basic research and academic publications: from scholarly discoveries to practical solutions;
- Legal aspects of managing the rights of all kinds of creative and scholarly activities in publishing and using the composers’ legacy;
- Source study and textual criticism: musical and literary heritage, similarities and differences in methodology, research and museum experience;
- Musical archives: storage, cataloging, discoveries, attribution, acquisition (including the return to the Russian Federation);
- Academic publication of musical artworks as a practical result of source and textual study;
- Historical practice of literary and musical academic editions, research and publication perspectives.

We look forward to seeing all colleagues, either in person or online, who are interested in the issues outlined above.
