medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
For questions regarding St. Michael, my go-to resource would have been Richard F. Johnson, 𝘚𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘵 𝘔𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘦𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘳𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘭 𝘪𝘯 𝘔𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘢𝘭 𝘌𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘓𝘦𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘥 (Woodbridge: Boydell, 2005) -- but I don't have access at hand.
As for liturgical practices, art, and angels, there is a long history that associates the flabellum (liturgical fan) with angels, and particularly, cherubim -- see Herbert Kessler's 2012 essay, "Images Borne on a Breeze: the Function of the Flabellum of Tournus as Meaning," pp. 15ff. - https://cpb-us-w2.wpmucdn.com/voices.uchicago.edu/dist/3/137/files/2011/09/Kessler-Images-Borne-on-a-Breeze.pdf
