You could do something on linguistic landscapes? Perhaps looking at the different
languages being used in public, and what they tend to be used for (and any patterns
they find between different languages). Here's a nice accessible article I use to

couple of years ago a second year group of mine opted to do a similar study based on
that, so it's about the right level. There are similar studies in different places
all over. And it's methodologically fairly simple to do, at least it can be if you
keep it within certain bounds. Hope it helps!
