Dear colleagues,
Greetings from the Equability, Diversity and inclusion in Music Studies Research Report Working Group!
We have launched a survey and a call for 'testimony' to gather data for the Research Report on EDI in music HE. These will be used alongside national statistical data on students and staff in music HE in the report.
We now need your help!
1. Can you ask your HoD (or similar role) if they have filled out our survey? EDIMS launched our survey for heads of department/School, aimed at building a picture of existing EDI practice and initiatives across Music HE, from universities and conservatoires to independent music education providers. We circulated the survey to Heads of Specialist Music Institutions, Heads of Departments/School for music as a subject area, and in some cases, programme leaders.
We have recently sent a reminder to them, so we encourage you to check in with your Heads of Department/School/Institution when you next speak to them, to remind them to complete our survey - and to make sure it arrived safely in their inboxes. We have suggested that Heads complete this together with EDI leads, so if you are an EDI lead and your Head of Department/School/Institution hasn't contacted you, please ask them about this. If they haven't received it they can email [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]> for a link.
2. Can you fill out and/or share our call for 'testimony<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/19l95klO9j7OBdTFEUmD9YJ36Rw5fgmRci8_GeKGrR08/edit?ts=607da45d>'?
We are asking for written accounts from students, staff or recent graduates from music HE in the UK who are marginalised in any way about their experiences (positive or negative). This means we are particularly keen to hear from women, queer people, disabled people, people of colour, or other students/staff who have felt minoritized.
It will only take a few minutes to fill out - we are asking for accounts of experiences or anecdotes that illustrate your experience. The purpose of this is to make sure that the quantitative data in the report is also informed by accounts of lived experience. Your experience will be fully anonymised in the report.
Please share/tweet/Insta/FB as well.
Thank you for your help.
Best wishes,
Dr Diljeet Bhachu and Dr Anna Bull
on behalf of EDIMS Research Working Group
