An observation.
I must firstly make it clear that I am not criticising any particular contributors to this list, but will admit that a recent thread has prompted me to express a view that I have held for some years, and which I feel sure will voice the views of a number of subscribers to this design list.
It has long concerned me that there appears on this list an underlying disrespect for designers. By the term 'designer' I mean someone who has qualifications in actually designing things. They may also have experience in industry in designing and managing [re]production of artefacts.
It is therefore quite clear to me that several contributors here are not designers, at least in any professional sense of the term. They may be highly skilled in another discipline. There are occasional claims of being this or being that, and having some authority to speak in that regard. But they do not necessarily have the knowledge or skills of designers nor the understanding of designers.
I think designers of all kinds are the most wonderful creative people. I simply call for a little more respect for their massive contribution to our societies.
kind regards
David
