Dear all:
I wonder if I might ask if anyone has a copy of this in PDF format:
Lawson, B. R. (2001). The context of mind. Designing in Context. P. Lloyd and H.Christiaans. Delft, DUP Science: 133-148.
Lawson (2004) enigmatically quotes himself as follows " “I have argued elsewhere that design knowledge and a ‘designerly way of knowing’, to use Nigel Cross’s delightful phrase (Cross 1982) are heavily dependent on experiential rather than theoretic memory (Lawson 2001).” Which is where I found the hint of the 2001 paper. This point about experiential and theoretic memory might be worth a second look (it is of interest to me!).
I am prepared to hazard a guess that experiential memory is a synonym for tacit knowledge or knowing-how. What else can it be?
