Dear All,
There is a great deal of discussion in design research circles about ways of knowing, and about the nature and kinds of knowledge. This is the subject of epistemology and theory of knowledge.
The authors of the many conference papers and PhD theses that address these topics will be interested in the formation of a new learned society, the British Society for the Theory of Knowledge.

While epistemology is a branch of philosophy, the theory of knowledge involves many fields and disciplines: sociology of knowledge, science and technology studies, education, history of science, psychology, economics, and — to be sure — design.
BSTK is interdisciplinary and it welcomes anyone interested to membership. Membership is quite reasonable — GBP 15 for full members, GBP 5 for student members. It costs nothing to attend the annual conference! It’s members-only, but it’s free.
This is an interesting society. I’ve joined, and I suggest it to anyone who is interested in theory of knowledge. I suppose we won’t know for a couple years whether the society does much to advance these issues — but one can hope. At the very reasonable price of GBP 15, it is a minor investment.
Give it some thought. Check their web site and look into the work of the officers.
Yours,
Ken Friedman

The society aims to provide a forum for the communication of research in the theory of knowledge aimed at stimulating scientific debate and improving the public understanding of the theory of knowledge, through a programme of conferences and meetings featuring contributions by academics working in the theory of knowledge.
