My apologies to Ken Friedman for posting a private email .. I was so
aggrieved at being called a "complainer" that I missed the "private email"
clue ...
For those of you that missed the "plagiarism" exchange on this list ... I
expressed myself forcibly on the side of anti-plagiarism, but more so,
against the many cases of self-plagiarism that is more rampant than some
are willing to acknowledge (I have provided evidence of the latter, as a
reviewer, to the relevant people involved).
On that basis Ken asked me to write an article on self-plagiarism, and
then, to be labelled as "complaining" about the issue ... "It doesn’t seem
reasonable to complain as much as you do about poor standards of thinking
and writing (i.e., your self-plagiarism complaint) when you don’t pay
attention to providing the evidence for your arguments."
I don't think many people on this list will entertain the notion that
plagiarism and self-plagiarism does not exist, or is not the huge problem
that many academics find it to be ... I hardly call that "complain[ing] ...
about poor standards of thinking and writing".
I repeat: I was and am quite upset, still.
