Dear Joao, Aysun, Judith, Michael,
Many thanks for sending through the information on grounded theory – I am happy to have it all as resources for the future. I really appreciate all the information and I am definitely inclined, in future projects, to use GT as approach; it certainly suits my style of research. However, in the case of my PhD, my research is most certainly heuristic and ethnographic both of which mean that I did not take a grounded theory approach at the start, I couldn’t have due to the fact that I have an intimate knowledge with the field. The thesis is based on practice-led phenomena and bringing to the fore, my personal experiences and insights of the field. I use Moustaka’s (Moustakas, 1990, P15-27) core processes of a heuristic inquiry: identify with the focus of inquiry, self-dialogue, tacit knowing, intuition, indwelling, focussing, internal frame of reference.
I am open to being challenged (as I am by no means an expert) but from what I understand, and was advised by supervisors, this is not a grounded theory thesis and I had already made choices about the fieldwork that make it impossible to go back.
Again, I thank you all for taking the time to respond to me question,
Warm regards,
Britta Boyer

Dear Britta,
A useful method when dealing with different types of data is Grounded
Theory (GT). I suggest you try to search for design theses that used
Grounded Theory. The method is incredibly powerful in generating insights
from different data and it allows for versatility in how to communicate
them without losing analytical rigour.
I have a fair amount of design theses in digital format and could have a
look later, but I'm overwhelmed with work at the moment. If you can't find
anything online just send me an email reminding and I'll give you a hand.
I would also recommend the papers of Judith Holton and Barney Glaser that
explain the GT method in detail.
Apologies for the rushed response.
Good luck,
--
