Hosted by the School of Performing and Digital Arts, Royal Holloway University of London
Specialising in Italian repertoire, Elizabeth has established herself as a notable lyrico spinto soprano. Centred around the operas of Puccini and Verdi, her roles include Puccini’s Cio-Cio San Madama Butterfly, Magda La rondine, Giorgetta Il tabarro, Tosca, Suor Angelica and, most recently, Manon Lescaut, Luisa Miller and Amelia Simon Boccanegra, for which she was nominated singer of the year in Opernwelt magazine. Recent significant debuts include her Metropolitan Opera company debut as Bess Porgy and Bess, and the title role in Verdi’s Aida for Theater Bielefeld.
Recent concert appearances have included Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with the BBC Symphony Orchestra (cond. Donald Runnicles), Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 (with Esa-Pekka Salonen), Vaughan Williams’s A Sea Symphony (with Martyn Brabbins; recorded for Hyperion) and a live performance of Strauss’s Vier Letzte Lieder (on BBC Radio 3 with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra).
Elizabeth began the 20-21 season with her company debut with Scottish Opera, singing Mimì in a socially distanced outdoor production of La Bohème - one of the first operas to be staged in the UK following the Covid-19 crisis. Later this season Elizabeth will release her debut solo album Songs of the Heart and Hereafter, alongside pianist Simon Lepper, focusing on the work of Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and his contemporaries. Prior to the release, Elizabeth performs the programme in recitals at Snape Maltings in Aldeburgh and for her Wigmore Hall debut, broadcast online and on BBC Radio 3 live in-concert.
