Dear colleagues,
During the last week on the 20th of January Louise van Wijngaarden-Bakker has passed away. She has been an important figure in the development of the zooarchaeology in the Netherlands and was well known and appreciated at international level. Many generations of students have been inspired by her rigorous but very professional and enthusiastic attitude to the discipline. Her humanity and helpful character was also well known to all those people and colleagues who had the opportunity to know and work closely with her. She will remain in the memory of her many students and colleagues. In the last years her physical conditions has brought her to retire from her professional activities, with courage but possibly with some regret. I remember once she told me: “I have never missed an ICAZ! ”. That her enthusiasm can remain a source of inspiration for our zooarchaeological work.
