Dear PhD-Design Community,
Happy 2021!
I am a co-chair for the Emerging Ideas for Sustainability at the 2021 ISSST Conference (International Symposium on Sustainable Systems and Technology). Please find below the description for our track. I invite you to visit the conference website at https://issst.net <https://issst.net/> and submit an 500 word abstract by January 25th and register for the Conference at https://www.conftool.org/issst2021 <https://www.conftool.org/issst2021>.
Unlike most tracks in sustainability conferences, including this one, are centered around technical and/or scientific work of environmental concerns. This call, however, welcomes diverse contributions relevant to the various dimensions of sustainability, including design. I anticipate you will not find many design scholars and practitioners working with or in this community. Nevertheless, there are many members open and willing to expand the boundaries of their work and collaborate. Should you have any questions or want to hear from my experience, please send me an email at [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>
We invite emerging ideas situated in the interplay of social, ecological, economic, and technical systems that can advance knowledge and expertise towards the sustainability of these systems. We welcome contributions that present an initial framing of problems or solutions, new conceptual and theoretical research approaches, frameworks, methods, or emerging practices requiring further theoretical and conceptual development and empirical verification. The topics listed below provide an entry point for diverse scholars and practitioners pushing the boundaries of how individuals and organizations approach sustainability. Our goal is to provide a space for open, inclusive, and critical debates that can help diverse participants advance their work within and/or across their disciplinary and practice areas. Thus, the format for presentations is flexible and will depend on the type of work we receive and the presenter's interest, varying from conventional presentations or panel discussions followed by Q&A, webinars, posters, workshops, and open conversations. Please select one or more of the following topics when submitting your work:
Scope and Scale of Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment
Strategies, Operations, and Tactics for Sustainable Development Goals
Integrated economic-environmental analysis
Frameworks and methods for assessing alternative technology
Justice and equity in the Circular Economy
Policy Design and Social Innovation
Platforms and Integrated Product-Service Systems
Handprinting, avoided emissions, and emissions offsets to achieve net positive targets
Social dimensions of sustainability
Participatory approach and stakeholder engagement
Best,
-
