Hello all,
Museum architecture around the world inspires design, provokes ideas, pushes the limits of the possible, and creates vibrant places for people. In a series of panels, contributors to Contemporary Museum Architecture and Design: Theory and Practice of Place (Routledge, 2020) expand on ideas about museum design. Please join in the next two panels:
Defining New Paradigms: Thursday 3 December 2020, 6-7pm Australian EDT. https://www.utas.edu.au/events/2020/december/contemporary-museum-architecture-and-design-defining-new-paradigms
Two Australian architects offer insights into the future of gallery design for community and curiosity.
* Kerstin Thompson, Principal of KTA and Adjunct Professor at RMIT and Monash Universities. In recognition for the work of her practice, contribution to the profession and its education, Kerstin was elevated to Life Fellow by the Australian Institute of Architects in 2017. She will speak about the Museum as Place-maker.
* William Smart, Founder and Creative Director of Smart Design Studio. His buildings have received critical acclaim, won prestigious awards and have been widely published in architectural and other publications. He will speak about the Open and Integrated Museum.
Enhancing and Inviting Communities: Thursday 10 December 2020 7:30 pm in US EST // 5:30 pm in US MST // 4:30 pm in US PST and Arizona // Friday 11 December 2020 11:30 am in Australia EDT. https://www.utas.edu.au/events/2020/december/contemporary-museum-architecture-and-design-enhancing-and-inviting-communities.
Four experts reflect on how architecture can expand inclusivity, engage communities and create sustainable futures.
* Meredith Banasiak, Director of Research for Boulder Associates, will speak about how museums can create a Sensory Place for All.
* Megan Lykins Reich, Interim Executive Director for the Museum of Contemporary Art (moCa) Cleveland, will speak about Making an Urban Living Room at the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland.
* Christopher Alt, Principal of Studio Ma, will speak about Triple Bottom Line Sustainable Design: Scottsdale's Museum of the West in Arizona.
* Daniel P Gottlieb, Director of Planning & Special Projects for the North Carolina Museum of Art, will speak about Design for Citizenship by creating the Museum Park from a socially damaged prison site.
If you would like to attend but cannot make the appointed time, please go ahead and register, and I will send you a recording of the webinar afterwards.
