Yes! "With some humility" indeed, as David says.
At his Communication Research Institute (CRI), David Sless and his
colleagues, they have come up with a research framework for the domain of
written communication artefacts.
And I, inspired by my mentors at the Georges Pompidou Center, I proposed
the perspective opened up by those mentors, as a research concept* for the
domain of daily use, tangible artefacts. There may be more such research
framework proposals that I am not aware of, but certainly enough valuable
foundational material to start with building up our specific research
discipline in design.
Best of luck to those who may venture "to carry out the work, to build some
standardized and shared evaluatory mechanisms of design in the world...".
