PhD Studentships in Music at Durham University
Deadline: 30th November 2020 for an online application to the Music Department (https://www.dur.ac.uk/music/postgraduate/apply/)
The Music Department invites applications for PhD studentships through the AHRC-funded Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership. The Department's research staff offers a broad spectrum of supervisory expertise in musicology, music analysis, ethnomusicology, music psychology, performance, and acoustic and electroacoustic composition. Details of our academic staff and their individual research interests can be found at https://www.dur.ac.uk/music/staff/
The Northern Bridge Doctoral Training Partnership offers high-quality supervision and exceptional resources, as well as the expertise of a broad portfolio of Strategic Partners for the training and development of outstanding Arts and Humanities postgraduate researchers.
The awards cover tuition fees and provide a maintenance grant at the RCUK national rate for UK applicants.
UKRI/the AHRC has yet to confirm whether applicants who are not British citizens and do not hold settled residency status are eligible to apply for doctoral studentships after Brexit. We will update our website as soon as the Council clarifies the position.
We welcome applications from outstanding candidates who can demonstrate evidence of academic excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate level (or equivalent professional experience), as well as evidence of sufficient research skills to undertake the project.
The Northern Bridge DTP operates two funding schemes - Standard Route studentships, and Collaborative Doctoral Awards which involve collaboration with a partner organisation. Applicants should consult a potential supervisor from our academic staff to discuss the viability of their research proposal (https://www.dur.ac.uk/music/staff/) and can find instructions for making an official application online (https://www.dur.ac.uk/music/postgraduate/)
For further information about both schemes and detailed guidance notes, see http://www.northernbridge.ac.uk.
