Dear Lars,
Thank you for your GAAA expansion.
I really don’t know what is a designer in “a broad sense”. In a broad sense I’m a doctor and an archeologist. In a broad sense I’m not and never be an architect: I understand that to be an architect you have to be selected by god and then sell your soul in a crossroad near Dockery Plantation at midnight.
I think the “be entrepreneur /start up” discourse is a little bit like Oprha’s “Secret”: as a downside to it. And maybe we’re exagerating in asking our students to be entrepreneurs: that stuff is not for everybody (even in a broad sense).
I don’t want to go point by point in your arguments. I prefer to suggest Arvind Lodaya’s message who gave a really interesting point of view about a career plan without the “entrepreneur/start up” prozac discourse. The suggestions made about how to navigate in this "gig economy” were really interesting and worthwhile to discuss. I’m still processing it.
There is a new generation who sees the economy will not be fair for them and so they decide to not have any attachment (car/house), they don’t stay more than one year in one company (learning/boring), and they build themselves in an amazing "blend of business & technical expertise accumulation, social impact context-exploration (the best design challenges come from here) and rich & deep engagement with theory, criticality and peers in academia.”
Best regards,
Gonçalo
