Thank you for your reply. The notion of the principal actor is useful in clarifying the relationships between the different concepts.
I am interested in your example of the case of non-human tool-using primates who act without language.
Since these primates do not have the capacity to understand and produce language, they cannot express explanations, justifications, apologies and so on. In your view, are these primates responsible for their acts?
