Terry,
Life is short.
As it happens, I’m familiar with the philosophical debates about agency from a long time ago. The Stanford encyclopaedia merely repeats those debates, treading the same familiar boards on a familiar stage. The fact that it remains a debate tells me something about patterns of intellectual academic debates. My view on it remains the same. These are debates about possible metaphors arising from taking the term agency and applying it in a variety of contexts, only to discover that they end up down new rabbit holes: fanciful inventions and abstractions going nowhere.
I work in a different world.
Waves don’t really communicate, at least not to me, but I love them all the same.
I recommend a serious course on how to spot and use metaphors.
I regret being drawn back into this debate. It tempts me to revoke all sense of agency.
David
