Hi Manel,
I previously taught a course on Intercultural Discourses for my university's Global Internships Program. This was a different class in that the students were in a different countries working in internships for the summer, but we were able to use both their office spaces and new cities as ethnographic sites. The main idea, which you might be able to apply to your class, was to get them to start looking at their environments as locations for different types of communication styles. I stressed that they can apply this new skill of analyzing their surroundings throughout their lives, particularly when they enter a new job and have to quickly assess and adopt the communicative and social norms of the office and industry. They particularly enjoyed working on Linguistic Landscapes.
I've attached my syllabus in case it's helpful. I'm happy to answer questions and share specific assignments as well.
Take care,
Susan

Hi all,
Hope everyone is keeping safe and well.
I am teaching a new final year course on Intercultural Communication from September (for 12 weeks). I have purchased several books by authors such as Ingrid Piller, Zhu Hua and others, yet, I am still struggling with what topics to cover and what to do in seminars. Last year, we discussed Language and Identity and Linguistic Anthropology and covered quite a lot on culture, so I don't want to replicate anything I have done there. I would be very grateful for any ideas you can give me on course topics and seminar resources (such as articles, activities, etc that would be good for a 50 minute session). Thanks very much in advance.
Best wishes,
Manel
