Acta Acustica and CNRS conclude pure publish open access agreement

Paris, France, 11 May 2020: Acta Acustica and the CNRS (le Centre national de la recherche scientifique) are pleased to announce the successful conclusion of a pure publish open access agreement which enables corresponding authors affiliated with selected CNRS laboratories to publish open access in Acta Acustica free of charge. The agreement with the CNRS is the first open access agreement to be concluded on behalf of Acta Acustica.

Authors from CNRS laboratories included in the agreement<https://acta-acustica.edpsciences.org/images/Acta-Acustica-agreement-eligible-CNRS-laboratories.pdf> represent a significant number of Acta Acustica’s corresponding authors who may now publish under a CC-BY licence free of charge. The agreement allows for 51 articles which may be published flexibly over time – there is no date by which articles must be published. Publication charges will be paid for centrally by the CNRS.

Acta Acustica is the journal of the European Acoustics Association (EAA) and reports on original scientific research in acoustics and engineering applications. Last year, the EAA selected EDP Sciences as its new publishing partner. In January 2020, the EAA transitioned Acta Acustica (formerly Acta Acustica united with Acustica) to open access and the first open access issue was published in February 2020, making it the first acoustics journal of a learned society to transition to a gold open access model.

“This is a significant step for Acta Acustica and confirms its position as a leading voice in the field of acoustics” observed Professor Manell Zakharia, President of the EAA. “Here at the EAA, our aim is to ensure the greatest and easiest accessibility to quality research in the field of acoustics. This agreement facilitates the publication of such research for a large number of our valued authors and cements the place of open access at the heart of our activities. We are extremely pleased that our partner, EDP Sciences, supports the open scholarship agenda and look forward to further exciting opportunities to come.”

“As the publisher of Acta Acustica, we are pleased to have reached this agreement with the CNRS to cover publication charges for many of its acousticians,” commented Anne Simoneau, Director of Business Development at EDP Sciences. “It’s a privilege to work with such far-sighted organisations as the CNRS and agreements like these enable us to better serve our publishing partners. For the EAA, it means we can help its journal to grow whilst ensuring its future sustainability. A good number of acousticians affiliated with the CNRS will now be able to share their work without having to consider publication charges.”
