+1 to Britta Boyer on "I don’t want to assume a negative and would like to invite transparency on how you plan to address this potential bias from the industry backers and how you may engage knowledge systems in the Global South that are not necessarily there to serve western industry models of modernity?"
The combination of “industry logic” and cultural hegemony combines to self-silence many potential voices and knowledge traditions (“logics”) from outside this circle (this discussion forum providing a case in point). When I protested this hegemony to my PhD guide way back (I was protesting the alienating format—NOT the rigour—of 'academic writing'), his short response was (paraphrased) "In order for us to influence 'global' theory & knowledge, we'll have to theorize 'The West' first." That epiphany was one of the things that made me drop out. I wouldn't blame Don & Co. for also not opting to take on such a Herculean Labour.
