Friends,
On the one hand, I think there is some value to discussing issues of concern to the whole world, and to members of our community. I don’t object to broad and widely useful considerations on Corona virus. But I wonder whether conversations that drill down into Australian health policy are really of interest here. Specific local issues from Western Australia are even less relevant.
Anyone who is interested in Coronavirus details from Australia and New Zealand can follow Australian activities in The Guardian, along with news from the UK, the US, and the larger world. The Guardian is open access

The New York Times is also making their Coronavirus coverage available free

Articles on Coronavirus from the Lancet aren’t useful with respect to research writing unless you take the time to explain in a well crafted post just what it is that people can learn about research writing from one specific article — as contrasted with all the other articles in Lancet, Nature, etc.
Under any circumstances, it is clear to me that folks have not been thinking in posting these comments. A string of five (5!) tails with footers suggests that these posts have been fired off without much consideration.
There are doubtless some useful items that members of the PhD-Design community might wish to share about the current pandemic, responses to it, how folks are managing as university education goes online — especially doctoral education. And there might even be some topics related to doctoral education in design that someone may wish to post. Since we’re all sitting at home, anything relevant would be interesting and useful.
But I am not interested in what the town leaders of Port Hedland WA (Western Australia) are doing in relation to Covid-19. I admire the prime minister of New Zealand and I follow her in the news, but I don’t much care that someone got her name wrong in a post here. I care even less to have an acknowledgement the author of the ill-informed post recognises his mistake, since the post was relatively uninteresting in the first place. Asking us for “thoughts?” on an irrelevant post is a specious rhetorical tactic designed to get people engaged in a conversation that would do better on Facebook.
I’d welcome some useful and lively posts on subjects that add value to my day. Apart from the one footer that properly belongs to this post, the other footers that follow are pasted in from the long string of tails and footers that adorned the series.
Can we do better, friends?
Ken Friedman
