medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
apologies for cross-posting
Continuing to work through my backlog, I have just posted three new
groups of images.
I have now indexed the cathedral in Veliki Novgorod, whose doors and
chalice I posted earlier. The C11+ building is white outside, showing
off the lines of its tiered apses and domes, and inside has a huge C14+
iconostasis.

The Museum of London has an amazing collection of pilgrimage ampullae,
badges, and plaques. Most are linked to Thomas Beckett, but others are
associated with Thomas Earl of Lancaster, John Schorn, and King Henry VI
as well as Leonard, Eligius, Joss, and more standard saints.

Those of you interested in pilgrimage might prefer to look at the pages
that include such material from other collections as well,

and

The polychromed c.1375-1425 Vierge Ouvrante in the Musée de Cluny is in
beautiful condition. When open, Mary's arms shelter a member of the
Teutonic Order as well as rulers and a bishop and pope.
