Hi all,
We (Erik Sandelin and Sarah Homewood) are hosting a seminar on "Design Inactivisms" at Konstfack in a few weeks. We're looking for examples of designerly projects that are characterised by a decision *not* to design. From micro-refusals to full stops, from tiny unmakings to taking a step back to make space for something/someone else – all thoughts and suggestions are appreciated!
Current examples include Lacaton & Vassal's decision to "add nothing" to Place Léon Aucoc in Bordeaux, and Homewood's work on not designing self-tracking tools for menopause:
* Lacaton & Vassal: https://www.lacatonvassal.com/index.php?idp=37
* Homewood, S. 2019. Inaction As a Design Decision: Reflections on Not Designing Self-Tracking Tools for Menopause In: Extended Abstracts of the 2019 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems. CHI EA ’19. New York, NY, USA: ACM, pp.alt17:1–alt17:12.
Thank you!
All the best from Malmö,
Erik and Sarah
PS. The seminar takes place at Konstfack Research Week in Stockholm January 27-31, an event which may be of interest to some of you: https://www.konstfack.se/en/Research/Konstfack-Research-Week/Konstfack-Research-Week-2020/
