Doctoral Studentships in Music at Northumbria University, Newcastle upon Tyne
This is the final call for applications for fully funded doctoral positions (full and part time) as part of the Northern Bridge Consortium Doctoral Training Partnership scheme.
Music at Northumbria University sits within the Department of Humanities alongside History, American Studies, English Literature and Linguistics. As part of the larger Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Music at Northumbria boasts a rich and diverse research environment, with a particular strength in interdisciplinary research.
The academic staff from Music, and those in other subjects working on music-related topics, cover the broad areas listed below. We invite enquiries from potential candidates who feel their own research interests can be supported by the following areas of expertise:
English music, c1500-1700
Scottish music, dancing masters and musicians of the 18th century
Instrumental and keyboard music to c.1800 (including performance practice)
Ballads and pop song, 1500-1800
English and European songbooks, 1400-1700
Source studies (manuscript and early print) and editing
Historical musical instruments (organology)
Music and mythology
Music and literature
Music and politics: including court music, nationalism, activism and protest
Music and the medical humanities
American music and culture

The deadline for completed proposals is 16:00 on Monday 13 January 2020. The strongest applications will then be selected by the department for submission to Northern Bridge.
